Fining individual workers

According to an article in the Calgary Herald, fines will start being assessed, not only on employers but also on workers themselves in Canada starting next month by the Canadian equivalent of OSHA.

If it can be shown that an employee, despite being educated about the risks involved, still doesn’t comply with safety regulations, they will be fined up to $500.00 on the spot.

Under the new system, the fines would be similar to traffic fines that individuals could appeal and show up in court to contest.

Do you think that we should have a similar system here in the US? Why, why not?
